How screening varies in New Mexico
There is no universal "felony-friendly" certification. Screening policies differ by property and management company. This page does not make claims about state or local law; confirm a property’s current requirements directly before applying.
New Mexico resources
ALBUQUERQUE AHA PBV NINETEEN LISTED PROPERTIES — Albuquerque Housing Authority's https://abqha.org/pbv lists NINETEEN PBV properties: seventeen in Albuquerque and two in neighboring RIO RANCHO (Felician 1 and Felician 2). Only Felician 2's PBV pre-application is presently accepted, for 25 subsidized one-/two-bedroom units with an age-55+ household-member rule, 30%/50%-AMI income restriction and military/veteran preference.
The other eighteen PBV lists are CLOSED to new applicants, but existing waitlists continue; that does not establish whether whole properties rent units through another program. The page supplies multiple entrances for Veranda and Martineztown, and no count for the other 18 entries. City resources explain online-only free intake, nonportable assistance and screening caveats. Reviewed September 29, 2026.
MESILLA VALLEY MVPHA COMMUNITIES AND HOUSING NM LAS CRUCES — Housing New Mexico's https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/subsidized-rental-properties#Las_Cruces lists six Las Cruces subsidized-property leads, but does NOT say they are all Mesilla Valley Public Housing Authority properties.
Burley Court is the Jardines Verdes site and Robledo Ridge is on both lists, so do not double-count; Abode is a group home rather than an ordinary apartment record. MVPHA's https://www.mvpha.org/communities.aspx separately names eleven communities in Las Cruces, Anthony and Hatch, totaling 719 summed site counts across DIFFERENT programs, not 719 public-housing units.
Its broader https://www.mvpha.org/programs.aspx counts 248 public-housing units and 643 LIHTC units and includes additional sites; its https://www.mvpha.org/waitlists.aspx distinguishes an open Jardines Verdes 1/2-bedroom list from public-housing 1/3/5-bedroom lists and a closed HCV list. The three additional Housing NM apartment leads have no confirmed MVPHA affiliation. Reviewed September 29, 2026.
SANTA FE COUNTY THREE NEIGHBORHOODS AND HOUSING NM TWO DIRECTORIES — Santa Fe COUNTY Housing Authority's https://www.santafecountynm.gov/housing-services/programs/public-housing-program describes three public-housing NEIGHBORHOODS, including one in Santa Cruz near Española, not Santa Fe city. It says 198 public-housing units, while the site-level figures 71+61+68 add to 200; preserve the discrepancy.
The separately sourced https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/subsidized-rental-properties#Santa_Fe and https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/affordable-rental-properties#Santa_Fe overlap at four addresses and yield 25 ordinary Santa Fe apartment/community leads plus five specialized group/service/transitional contacts; NONE can be presumed county-owned or currently vacant.
County voucher page's explicit closed HCV notice overrides an older accepting-applications sentence; current county public-housing list status remains unverified. Reviewed September 29, 2026.
ROSWELL HOUSING NM DEDUPLICATED RENTAL DIRECTORIES — Housing New Mexico's https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/subsidized-rental-properties#Roswell has four Roswell subsidized names, all repeated in its TEN-entry https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/affordable-rental-properties#Roswell. Ten distinct leads include an addressless Pecos Valley Village scattered-site group.
Cielo De Oro has incompatible street/ZIP/phone entries; a separate 2025 special-needs program brochure corroborates 1700 W Hendricks but does not resolve every site's intake. None of the statewide directory entries proves Eastern Regional/Region VI Housing Authority manages the property. The similarly named authority at roswellhousing.org is in GEORGIA and must not be used for Roswell, NM. Reviewed September 29, 2026.
FARMINGTON HOUSING NM NINE DEDUPLICATED RENTAL LEADS — Farmington's https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/subsidized-rental-properties#Farmington lists three properties, all included in the nine-entry https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/affordable-rental-properties#Farmington.
The independent https://farmingtonnm.gov/1206/Affordable-Housing table corroborates seven named properties but conflicts on La Terraza's street number and Mesa Village's phone; neither conflict should be silently resolved. https://newlifehomesnm.org/la-terraza/ confirms La Terraza's 72 two/three-bedroom units, not a current vacancy.
The local https://www.sjcounty.net/government/housing-authority is the San Juan COUNTY Housing Authority and describes voucher intake, not ownership or current openings for all nine rentals. No listing establishes felony approval. Reviewed September 29, 2026.
CLOVIS HOUSING NM ELEVEN ADDRESS-LEVEL RENTAL LEADS — Clovis's https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/subsidized-rental-properties#Clovis lists two names; https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/affordable-rental-properties#Clovis lists twelve entries, including Gatewood twice across lists and “Clovis I”/“Clovis II” at one shared address and phone with subsidized “Clovis Apartments.” Eleven address-level or group leads remain after reconciliation, including one unpinnable scattered-site program. https://sharenm.org/clovis-housing-redevelopment-agency/clovis-housing-redevelopment-agency is a local housing-authority OFFICE contact, not evidence it owns all eleven.
Independently documented Andalusia (60 homes), Bella Vista (60), Hotel Clovis Lofts (60), and Lo Lomas (55 homes for age-55+ households) have counts, but none is a verified vacancy. Property screening and current authority waitlist status remain to be confirmed. Reviewed September 29, 2026.
HOBBS HOUSING NM ELEVEN DEDUPLICATED RENTAL LEADS — Four Hobbs subsidized-list names recur among ELEVEN affordable-list entries; after merging aliases, there are ELEVEN distinct rental leads. The supplied “subsided” route is misspelled and does not contain the directory.
Four Seasons's operator corroborates 2405 N Jefferson over the affordable list's conflicting 4301 Morris NE; La Pradera's https://tierrarealty.com/la-pradera project page instead says 805 E Glorietta versus Housing NM's 1023 E Glorietta, so that lead remains unpinned. https://m.housingnm.org/community_development/regional-housing-authorities says Eastern Regional Housing Authority serves Lea County but does NOT establish ownership of the eleven sites, active vacancy or a Hobbs-specific public-housing waitlist.
Reviewed September 29, 2026.
ALAMOGORDO HOUSING NM THREE AFFORDABLE RENTAL LEADS — The https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/subsidized-rental-properties#Alamogordo directory has NO Alamogordo heading, while https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/affordable-rental-properties#Alamogordo lists THREE address-level leads. https://tierrarealty.com/cottonwood-commons corroborates Cottonwood Commons (60 existing affordable family homes); https://properties.jaxontexas.com/otero-village calls the same-address Otero Village rental “Cielo at Alamogordo” (40 existing homes), with a contact differing from the directory.
Azotea's numeric senior-age cutoff is not confirmed by an operator.
The proposed authority-to-Eastern-Regional transfer in the 2022 https://mcclibraryfunctions-stage.azurewebsites.us/api/ordinanceDownload/10991/1168753/pdf was contingent on HUD approval; the undated accessible https://www.hud.gov/sites/dfiles/PIH/documents/PHA_Contact_Report_NM.pdf lists the city's agency contact but does not prove transfer status, so do not declare a completed transfer or assign these independent sites to the authority.
No current vacancies or conviction approvals confirmed. Reviewed September 29, 2026.
CARLSBAD HOUSING NM FIVE ADDRESS-LEVEL RENTAL LEADS — The https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/subsidized-rental-properties#Carlsbad has four Carlsbad names, ALL present in the FIVE-entry https://survey.housingnm.org/renters/affordable-rental-properties#Carlsbad; Kiva is affordable-list only and has no directory phone.
The 710 Hueco La Posada and 805 Hueco Mission addresses are separately visible while https://affordablehousingonline.com/housing-search/New-Mexico/Carlsbad/Mission-La-Posada-Apartments-Rehab/10012015 groups them under a rehab label; their unit totals and intake are not additive by assumption.
La Posada's two directory phones differ and overlap neighboring entries. https://www.torchousing.org/sites.aspx?site=villasanjose independently confirms that Villa San Jose is a 60-unit project-based 62-or-disabled property run by Truth or Consequences Housing Authority, NOT a city-wide policy for the other rentals. https://m.housingnm.org/community_development/regional-housing-authorities says Eastern Regional serves Eddy County, not that it owns all five.
No current vacancies or individual conviction approvals confirmed. Reviewed September 29, 2026.

Preparing your application
A little preparation can help you ask better questions before paying an application fee.
- Gather proof of income (recent pay stubs, an offer letter, or bank statements).
- Collect positive references from prior landlords or employers where possible.
- Prepare a brief, honest explanation letter that provides context for your record.
- Ask each property directly about its reported screening policy before paying any application fee.
- Confirm the lookback period and which offense types a property may consider.
