Reported policy summaryElliot Twins Apartments at 1225 South 8th Street: 87 Units; High-Rise; AMP 6; Built in 1961. Built in 1961, the Elliot Twins are made up of two adjoining buildings with a total of 184 units (studios and one-bedrooms). These two 12-story high-rise buildings are in the Elliot Park neighborhood just blocks from Elliot Park. Laundry machines, property management offices, and resident community spaces are all conveniently located on the first floor of the building. The large, sunny community room offers a TV, free Wi-Fi, fireplace, and tables and chairs making it a great place to chat with neighbors or watch a movie. Residents use this space for resident council meetings, community activities, and meetings with support staff. Additionally, there is a first-floor community kitchen and exercise room. The Elliot Twins also have a spacious courtyard and garden perfect for residents to enjoy the fresh air and relax outside. In 2022, the Elliot Twins received a $27 million renovation which resulted in a full remodel for all 174 deeply affordable units, added 10 disability accessible units, replaced aging building systems, and completed energy efficiency improvements including re-cladding the buildings with insulated metal panels. This transformation also added 6,200 square feet of community and office space, security upgrades, and resident amenities, including larger laundry spaces and an exercise room. MPHA's detail page lists: Studio units: 43; One-bedroom units: 43; Two-bedroom units: 1. Each of the two directory cards lists 87 units (174 combined), while the shared prose calls the pair 184 units and mentions 174 deeply affordable units plus ten disability-accessible units after renovation. It is unclear whether those ten overlap the other count. Keep each address-specific 87-unit card distinct and ask MPHA to reconcile the pair's current total. On-site management: 612-821-2171 (not the leasing line). MPHA leasing office 612-342-1475; https://mphaonline.org/mpha-housing/ (reviewed September 29, 2026). Site property managers handle residents, not leasing or applications; their numbers below are for on-site questions, not a way to join a waitlist. MPHA says incomes must be at or below 80% of area median income and that applicants undergo criminal-history screening; it explicitly says that simply having a criminal history does not disqualify a person. This is not a guarantee for any specific conviction or property: request the current written policy https://mphaonline.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/2026-Statement-of-Policies.pdf. Seniors age 62+ apply in person at MPHA, 1001 Washington Avenue North, on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. (https://mphaonline.org/mpha-housing/housing-for-seniors/). Near-elderly ages 50–61 and qualifying adults 18–49 with documented disability use their respective portal application paths (https://mphaonline.org/mpha-housing/housing-for-near-elderly/; https://mphaonline.org/mpha-housing/housing-for-general-occupancy/). The family-housing waitlist is currently CLOSED (https://mphaonline.org/mpha-housing/housing-for-families/); its RentCafé instructions apply to people with existing applications or a future reopening, not a current opportunity to join. MPHA's office is an application site, not a residence. A property card, unit count or application page is not evidence of a vacant unit or a property-specific screening decision.
